Rodan formed in 1992 from the same Louisville, small town stew that gave us Slint and Will Oldham. They were short lived and produced one LP in Rusty, that in my opinion is a true classic of the times. I was lucky enough to see them twice on the Rusty tour back in ‘94, and boy oh boy, were they really something.

What we have here is Rodan’s first recorded output, the Aviary cassette, limited to 200 copies.

As you may surmise the production on the thing leaves a little to be desired, and it sounds as if the tracks come from a few different sessions. You’ll recognize the six tracks from Rusty in varying states of embryonic form as well as the two tracks from the How the Winter Was Passed single plus a few others.

This may not be Rodan at the height of their powers two years later, but this artifact from 1992 is well worth a listen.
